I have read about some folks using 303 Protectant on kayaks. How many of you use this or something else (what?) Or, do you use nothing at all? So far I just wash ours off when we get home but, if there is something to make it last longer and help keep it looking new I would use it.
I’ve had my yak for a few years now and I have never cleaned it. I use it to fish and get from point A to B, over oysters, through mud/grass etc. Each time I take it out I seem to find something left over from the last trip out (baitfish guts or blood, mud, grass). I guess if I had a nicer/newer/prettier kayak to begin with I would put more effort into keeping it that way though.
On the plus side, keeping a dirty kayak keeps others from wanting to use it all the time!

Poly kayaks do have a UV inhibitor blended into the plastic, but, it is not foolproof or everlasting! Out of the sun storage is a good idea to keep the color vibrant and prevent the plastic from eventually getting brittle. Surface applied protectants do show to have some effect on retaining color and longevity. Polythelene is porous so dirt will get in the pores and make it look dirty even after a good scrubbing espicially on lighter colored kayaks, best way I found to really clean one good is to take a pressure washer to it, this will blast all the dirt out of the pores. I used armorall on one once to try and keep it shiny, BIG mistake!! Ya take a paddle stroke and you slide forward on the yak instead of the kayak moving! Also made it next to impossible to re enter it from the water. Guess it was kind of like the old joke about armoralling someones motorcycle seat!
The 303 protectant looks like good stuff, just have to see how slick it makes the kayak!

I have used 303 in the past and found it to work very well. From what I have always been told, it is a much better product for real out door items such as kayaks or boat use.
