304 SS vs 316 SS

I am looking for a transom mount boat ladder for my flats boat. We swim/snorkel out of it and stepping up onto the foot of the motor is an accident waiting to happen. I am finding ladders in both 304 and 316 SS. What is the difference and, is one better than the other?

Thanks

316 is a better grade stainless. It’s common for food & surgical uses, but is usually refered to as “marine grade” stainless. It resists saltwater corrosion better than 304. Keep in mind that stainless steel can corrode or rust, so rinse with fresh water after use in the salt.
