Wholly #$%#

I’m not familiar with the whaler or the verdos. But my guess would be both. I know I’m of no help, but hopefully someone with be along soon to help out.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Have you looked at the B.W. website?

http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_graphics/eprowebsitemedia/2904/EnginePerformance/268461_EnginePerf.pdf

You should be getting better than 1 MPG on that boat with twins. So, either you go 300 miles in a day offshore, or your fuel economy is significantly worse than the boats performance ratings. 300 miles offshore in CHS is a lot unless you are fishing the east side of the stream.

What does your mechanic say about the engines/prop setup?

Hook, Line, and Suckers… I call BS

we have been on the other side of the 226 before in early march but thats about it and lunaSea83 if u wanna see it for yourself then i will take you fishing would a set of 300 help or would it be more reasonable to change the prop

Did you look at the performance data on the B.W. website? You should be fairly close to that (maybe a little less with a full tank and gear). I would have a certified mechanic look at her to see if improvements could be made. That seems like an lot of fuel for your boat. Before re-powering, figure out what your issue is (motor, prop, hull, etc)

I agree, get a tech to look at it before repowering…you should be getting much better range. What year are your motors?

yes i did and according to the smart craft on the boat its doing a little less then what the performence sheet says i will take your advice and get a certifed mech to look at her for the prop and their maybe something can be done to the air in-take thanks for the advice

150-200 gal sounds more reasonable for that boat.

What’s your round trip mileage?

I’d say that if you are doing a little less mpg wise than what BW says then you are doing fine. Their website probably publishes speed and fuel economy numbers in flat calm water with the engines trimmed and tabs up. Expect your fuel economy to dip when your loaded up and have the boat trimmed running offshore.

did it always get this mileage or did it just start?

if its new, check the bottom for growth…

yeah it has always done that just always thought the boat was to heavy for the motors

check PM

The boat only holds 300 gallons and one can never use all the fuel due to the pick up so how do you make it home without running out?

What are your mph/fuel burn #'s at 3,4,5, and 6k rpms?

What size props do you have?

is the boat kept in the water and if so when was the bottom cleaned last?

I’m fishing on a 31 Yellowfin with twin 250 out of g Landing 4am to 7pm offshore we burn 170ish Check bottom growth

Y’all have any idea of the weight difference between those boats and the cod sled this fella is inquiring about?

That boat is around 5 tons before you put fuel and gear in it. Alot of boat for 250’s…

The performance #s for this hull are:
test weight loaded with 150 gallons of fuel/gear/crew was 12,258lbs 15x15" enertia props

3000 rpm 11.9mph 11.3 gph
4000 rpm 23.8mph 18.6gph
5000 rpm 34.0mph 28.0 gph
6000 rpm 42.1mph 43.9 gph

The whaler is a pig, but the original poster should be getting better fuel economy b/c it is not very often that boat will be able to run 5000 rpms offshore in our waters. He should be getting around 1.4 to 1.5 miles per gallon.

My hull gets 1 mile per gallon at most rpm ranges except for WFO

Either the poster is wrong on the fuel usage or there is something wrong with the engines or hull. It is doubtful both engines are not operating properly as it would be easy to determine.

I would suggest starting with the hull first. I left my hull in the water for 9 days last summer (no bottom paint) and the tiny barnicles which grew in that short
