30lb class TROLLING REELS COMPARISON (on paper)

I hear ya… been there, done that. Sometimes I have to catch myself from going over the edge, losing all track of time and space during a paper anaylsis. Having said that, I just unboxed a pair of Squall 60’s. I’ll provide a real-world report once I fish them.

Handled one of the smaller ones about a year or two ago before they were officially out, but they were still working out bugs. I had forgotten about them and had no idea the price was in line with the TLD’s.

Interested to hear what you think. Looks to be a better reel than a TLD- on paper- because of the couple “bells and whistles” in particular.

Ever since I have fished these, I have been looking for more used ones.

If you see any of the EX4/02’s (narrow frames) in good condition and blue color, please shoot me a message. They were the first Avets I ever handled and used, and I am not able to find anymore that someone doesn’t want more $ for than when I bought my first ones!

If you are interested in maintenance for your own reels, here’s a thread I did some time ago.

I just send them to Avet now. $30 per reel for servicing and all new bearings is a no brainer. Have not needed to do anything with the 4/02’s except replace clicker plates, but why not keep the reel full of brand new bearings as you service? Cheap way to keep the reel like new on the inside.

That’s a great thread. I have it bookmarked in case I have to do some emergency service. The only thing I had happen to one was that the clicker knob dissapered one day. Now I have a couple of spare full clicker assemblies. $25 from Avet and they had it to me in a week regular mail. Great customer service, when you call them a real person answers the phone and takes care of you. They are very enthusiastic about their product and it shows on the phone.

You mentioned the HXW 4.2 singles. I upgraded my TLD 25’s to these and have also been very happy. Spooled them with 80lb solid braid and 200 yds of 50lb topshot. Think I ended up with 500yds or so. These reels are almos

It’s that time of year when people like to shop for these!

I sold off my Avet HX’s and went with Accurate BX600’s for the core spread. Still have BX230N accurates and HX raptors, etc. for some trolling but mostly live baiting and bottom though. The 600’s are good for light bottom also. Have 300yds of 40lb braid and 250yds of 40lb mono on the 600’s.

Updated the first list above with Penn’s new Squalls, which are priced really well per their specs on paper I think.

I may add some Accurate and Alutecnos reels later.

This is good info I wish I had seen it before now though. Although I have been given some great advice from the expert.
