Looking for opinions on ride, resale, & layout. Assuming both equipped with 250 ox66’s.
I have never ridden in a 31 Jupiter. I would like to see some pictures of the cockpit layout if you have them. The 31 contender is a VERY good tried and true hull. What is the LOA of the Jupiter? The contender is 32’6".

Call up Tailwalker Marine, and they’ll tell you lots about the 31 Contenders as well as that power on the back.
There are a few 31 Jupiters around, and I have heard nothing but good about them as well as the 31 Contenders, which will obviously be a bit more numerous here.
I would try to ride/fish on each hull if you can find owners here to offer that to you. Then, make your decision off which layouts, handling, ride, etc. you like. Not sure who sells Jupiters in SC, but Contender’s dealer is Tailwalker in Georgetown.
Good luck with your new boat.

I will be glad to help if I can.

I own a 31 Jupitor currently docked in Edisto. Would be happy to let you go along on one of my trips. Good time to buy a used boat. Prices off by 40% to 60% over last 2 to 3 years. Tons of Jupitors for sale, as well as other types of centers, in the Jupitor/West Palm area. Will introduce you to the designer of the 31. He has a complete full service shop in Riviera Beach FL, and is a wealth of knowledge with the 31. There are substantial differences between various years and individual boats that you should be aware of.

I would take EB_Edisto up on that offer. You will have a grand time if nothing else.

I have run both boats, and the jupiter has a tendancy to ride bow high, and require alot of tabs, just like the 33 hydra sport. the wider beam on jupiter gives more room, but its also not as friendly in a head sea as the contender.
for rough water the contender would be my choice, but the jupiter is a nicer finished boat

Chris,
The 31 contender has a 9’ 4" inch beam and the Jupitor 9’6". The loaded weights and length and deadrise are also very close on the two boats. If the Jupitor has the optional gas tank up front(mine has an extra 110 gal.) and the killbox is loaded with ice, the boat is anything but light up front. I usually start by burning 50 gals from the bow tank in order to raise the bow.

Just curious, did you like or dislike the bow high running angle? Seems like that would give you alot more range with the tabs to raise and lower the bow depending on headsea or following sea.

ignore everything I said about the 31 jupiter.
I looked, and the jupiter I ran was a 29.
I didnt like it at all in rough seas. it is however, a very nice boat.
bullfrog
in calm water, its great, but in a head sea, its a much rougher ride, not being able to tuck the bow.
we are actually in the process of installing transom wedges to try and get some more negative bow trim.

If you are going to throw SeaVee into the mix why not yellowfin. They seem to be the top dog hull design wise right now.

37 contender is the baddest machine on the block in my opinion.
