Yes, there will be two 31 Contender fish arounds offshore later this morning pretending they know what they’re doing. Be assured all contestants will be informed by radio of the fish-off in affect today.
One bote will have Scoot’n4Baitsprings’ and the infamous Klarendon Kounty Boyz on board, and the other will have myself and a couple other professional peanut dolphin and sub-12 pound scamp slingers on board.
Who will put the most meat in the boat? Will one team punk out and fall back on an un-verified billfish catch and release when they are unable to put any brown or red in the box later in the day?
Will both teams only catch walterboro wahoo and pink snappers?
Will both teams have the crap beat out of them and have a bad case of the salty crotch before the first fish gets into the box?
To add to what Phin said…Or will one boat fall back on catching no-brainer bottom fish because they can’t catch sportfish? EF, no trolling fish only here. That made no difference anyway. Even with that pile of triggers and miscellaneous sea bream, y’all still lost, pound-for-pound, ladies. Still licking your wounds, I see. Boo hoo. Next time, you’ll probably count your ballyhoo as valid fish too. [:0] Afterall, they weigh almost as much as some of those “keepers” in that pile. lol.
Prediction: Phin weighs in a pile of b-liners, triggers, BSB’s, etc and claims that he beat the other boat that tags a blue marlin and brings back an 80-lb hoo.
JUST JERKING YOUR CHAIN! Don’t shoot!
Seriously, though, I hope y’all have a good time out there, guys. Godspeed and catch 'em up!

I bet the ocean was awesome today, and tomorrow looks even better. From the sounds of it, there were a lot of dolphin caught today. I’m sure our friends in the Contender match did well on 'em too.
When y’all gonna post the report, Phin? I wanna know who won. The loser has to swim naked at the grillage.
P.S. 23SF, you’d better keep an eye on that weather for Saturday. You’re planning on fishing the JIYC, right?

Ocean got sloppy between 11AM and 2PM at the stream. We put lines in at 7:45, and had 4 dolphin in the boat within an hour. We put lines in between the EB and 226 in about 250’, and we pushed out to about 500’ and found most of the action there in scattered weeds. We trolled back inshore towards the ledge just after lunch and kept picking at the occassional slinger and bonita, etc. We lost 6-7 dolphin because of various things- it was one of those days- And we ended with 7 or 8 in the box. By the time we got to the ledge around 3 or 4PM, it had laid back down a little, and we started trying the bottom. Red porgies everywhere you looked. Solid red porgies I tell you. Moved inshore a little and finally got some small ARS and basketball triggers. Finally went inshore a little further and got on the 2-3# seabass pretty hard along with more big triggers. No grouper bites- but we knocked off long before dusk when the grouper may have started biting again on this moon.
We finished with
7-8 dolphin (biggest were 15-18#)
1 big bonita for bottom bait
a bunch of big BSB (we released all under 16")
a bunch of big triggers
a few B liners
a bunch of big red porgies (we released all under 16")
released 6-7 ARS
no sharks
no AJ’s
no cudas
all good groceries
all good times
So “the other boat” beat us as expected. They got 10 dolphin and a bonita I think.
It was a good day on our boat though- pretty much had some action spread out over the whole day. We didn’t want to troll all day just to pick at the slingers, and it sounds like the bite shut off at lunch time anyhow.
I will post more later but here are a few pics. Weather was very sloppy as mentioned for a few hours but the ride out in the following sea was nice and it really laid down on the way home and gas or no gas Chunky let her eat!! Started hot went very stale for about 3 hours then started to pick up again around 2. Had to head in since some of us have to be at work in Greenville this morning:wink:.
BTW, the LEHI Sasqwitch in bleeding dolphin on the way back rod what by far the preferred bait of the day.

I like your thinking, although to BE the best you gotta Beat the best.
Something to shoot for,
These boys are not under the false assumption (once again) that this is strictly a trolling tourney are they???
The scoring system was discussed prior to the start. Grouper, ARS, dolphin and wahoo were to be 1 pt each. Dolphin/wahoo over 50# would be 2 pts each, and grouper/snapper over 20# would be 2 pts each. So team Hklarendonscoot’n4allrisewilcox won 10 to 8. I realize that you boys see the 75-80 lbs of fat triggers and BSB as simply “trash.” I fried some of the trash last night, and I’m telling your right now that it will put a dolphin or wahoo against the ropes at least… But keep throwing all the triggers and BSB back. I’ll gladly clean up your trash.
Oh… and edistofisher,
3 people can still get a lot of trash to the hill, wouldn’t you say?
Nice to see you out there again Harold. Long way from the TVA water isn’t it? Sounds like you guys had fun.
Thanks, EF. We did have a LARGE time! It was worth every mile of the drive from TN. If gas gets much higher, I suggest we just stay out on the boat all night…weather permitting. That way, we can get in two trips for the price of one.
I’ll be in the Florida Keys all next week. I’ll take some pix for you.
