I had been playing phone tag with Scoutin4Goodies and when we finally spoke on Sunday, he got me in touch with Craig/Two Sons to fish on Monday. After a quick walk in the grass Sunday evening (saw two fish, casted to one, no luck) I head home to get all packed and ready for the next day. Hit the road early and pulled up to their place at about 5and we were in the water by 5:30. After a comfortable ride/nap out to the fishing hole, we put lines in and start riding around looking for the dumb, hungry ones. Found some spotty scattered weeds which made our lives difficult for a bit and picked up a couple dolphin on the outside of the weeds. Left the weeds and headed East for a bit till we found nothing at all, then started dragging back west towards the weeds again. Lucky for us, the weeds had decided they wanted to play follow the leader so they formed up into a textbook perfect weedline with a color change. The color change was close to the weeds for a while and right smack dab on it in for a bit and we proceeded to troll down it for miles and miles. Our bite was hottest from about 10-12:30ish when the color change and weeds were right together and the fish were thick as could be. We had multiple doubles and triples and were overall very impressed with the consistent size. We ran out of bait before too long and started running lures instead, and the dolphin didn’t seem to care at all. They were hitting everything out there and were almost begging to be invited home for dinner! Packed it in about 2:30 and headed for the hill to get to the real work.
32 dolphin total. Biggest was 40 lbs, a handful in the 25-35 lb range and only 3-4 slingers. The majority of the fish were caught in 350-450. We lost a handful including one or two more big bastards but we had a full box so no worries.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Nice haul! I’m curious where you fished because we were all over yesterday between 226, 380 and the Outcrop and didn’t see a single piece of weed.

Ditto that. We started the day way far to the south and the ocean was green and dead even well past the ledge. I ran north past the 226 in 1400 and almost to the 380 before we found the first little flyers and the smallest bits of weeds. Reports over the radio weren’t good either.
Very nice! What you doing in Alaska! I’m going up for Halibut in August.
Got a seasonal guide job with Yes Bay Lodge 50 miles out of Ketchikan for the summer. Will be hunting salmon halibut, lingcod, etc for 4 months so I may have a few pictures to show off.

I’ll let Two Sons fill you in on that. He was doing an awesome job running the boat and putting us on the fish, I was too focused on the lines and getting fish in the boat to pay much attention to all that!
That kid is having a ball, but do him a favor and buy him an adjustable belt that fits! That way he can wear it a tad lower w/o fear of it falling off. Those slip-ons are ok for most of us, but not all of us. His fishing would be even more fun then. I would suggest rods with shorter butts as well, but that’s a little more expensive of an option! LoL
Thanks for putting up the report Rap, you are welcome anytime. We had a great crew yesterday and worked great together to keep baits in the water and fish in the box.

We were a little further South than you. I think yesterday was just our day. Did not see much bait or life anywhere else in the ocean. The best part was there was never another boat in sight all day long and I think only two in radio range I talked to.

Wow ! How did Craig keep the Two Sons clean bringing them in that quick? Prob run the wash down hot.
I only allow fish to bleed for 6 seconds on the deck
Big fish right before the gaff…
Miles and miles of weedline just like this
It was really a lot of fun to watch the fish all lit up come in the spread and bite. We got to feed a few off the teasers as well.
WOW. That has to be exciting. Just bought a boat that makes me comfortable to go out that far. I’ll be asking for help soon on where to go and how to set up. Would love to be an extra on a crew
