Im considering an Optimus 360 with joystick for the new boat. Im moving up from a 27ft with twin screws to a 36 with trips.Sounds like it can hover the boat over a reef while fishing and help with docking in wind and currents. I consider myself a decent handler of a boat but trips on a 36 will be a whole new beast. Anyone have experience with these?
We should be friends!
Technically the Optimus 360 in and of itself does not hold you over the reef. The added on SeaStation does.
Very cool set up, totally customizable down to how much steering friction you want at certain speeds. I have played for about an hour on seastation and it seemed to hold very well. Three different modes give you three different results/boat position. Basically heading only, position only, and heading and position hold.
If your 36 is a stepped hull make sure engines are set to 0 trim on joystick or you may feel blow back on the step. But if you are buying this boat currently set up it may already be correct. Most installers know that anyway.

Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■. Yes, they are running a special where you get the sea station when you purchase the Optimus and Joy stick through May.It is stepped so I will remember that.
And Im always looking for friends.
Nice! if ya don’t mind, what kind of boat?

I have a Sea Hunt and am building a Yellowfin.
Count on this:
While bottom fishing…
One of your friends will eventually allow his braid to get wrapped by Port and or Center and or Starboard.
I cheaped out and use a polyball & ring. It’s much quieter especially in wind or a good current.
The system sure is impressive watching it in action though.
edit:
…as per MD: no white braid allowed

How do you see it to get it out?
Thats a good point DG. Of course they do that now even when anchored up and out of gear. Im always amazed how much braid gets spun around the prop when the only thing turning it is the current.
Try leaving it in gear when anchored! Eleminate prop spinning.
I was considering the optimus system for my 27ft world cat, but the price was more than I wanted to invest at this time. Maybe some day when I get some of these bills paid off.
Until then, I’ll just have to keep extra fenders and spring line on board.
That system is really cool. When you get your new boat you should post a video of it in action
