380 226Hole on 3/11/08

Had lines in before 8 a mile short of 380. Found a decent weedline and stayed on it for couple of hours and nothing. Temp was around 67, so we trolled deeper. Got to around 72.5 about 10miles past 380 and had the first strike of the day around 10 or so. Peanut dolphin. Had 4 or 5 short strikes spaced out, nothing spectacular all day. I assume they were all just small fish. Warm water was way out there. Very little life out there yesterday; probably saw a total of maybe 10 flyers the whole time. Came in around 2 to try and save the day and bottom fish for a while. Caught the usuals with no grouper: porgies, triggers, some beeliners, sharks… we did catch a tilefish.

There were schools of Blackfin around 200’ that we couldn’t get to hit anything we threw at them. We were bottomfishing when they showed up, so we didn’t get to try a whole lot, but the schools are definatly out there.

Ocean was flat calm all day until we got out past 380 and the wind and waves picked up probably to 2-3’ and 10-12knts. Inshore of that was 1-2’ swells and little wind all day. Georgous day on the ocean.

We will try trolling again in a couple of weeks. Still beats being at the office.

Sorry, no exciting pictures this time.

Good times.

Much like an ugly girlfriend, that downrigger should always be mounted on the back.

It gets in the way bottom fishing. And that dude was sick all day. He was miserable.

Thanks for the report!

We are planning on heading to the 226 or 380 tomorrow and hopefully some of the warm water will move in a little closer.
Fish or no fish it sure beats being in the office.

You should go bottom fishing instead.

Good luck though.

I’m sure we will be bottom fishing by 1pm.

contender visor, contender shirt, the only thing missing is the lunch box.
Better than sitting on shore.

did you buy that boat from someone or do you sail.

Thanks for the report

One thing I’ve learned about Contender owners. They go all out. What you can’t see is the contender jacket he had on earlier and his Contender underwe…nev.
