Well the day started off a little rough. I finally found some bait at Lake World. Sounds like the bait guys are having some trouble catching bait. Now for the report . I decided to cut bait fish for the first time this year. The water was a little cooler than I prefer but is was about 59 degrees so I gave it a shot. I went and anchored on a spot in the ballentine area that I found a while back looking at some maps. It is a small hump that is 13 foot deep with a very sharp drop into 45 to 50 foot of water. We caught some shorts and keepers, 6 fish total, but we also found the mother load of catfish. We released all the rockfish and kept about 80 pounds of catfish. I don’t think the cut bait bite is wide open by any means but some can be caught if you find a hump or point with some bait around.

Cut Bait fished again today the first spot was in Crystal Lake caught some nice keepers on a point in 15 foot of water picked up and moved about 10 am. Second spot did not go so well the wind picked up and the fish would not bite. I idled around for 10 minutes before anchoring up and marked alot of fish but they were not interested in what I had to offer. Maybe this moon has something to do with it? Anybody else have any luck this weekend?

We cutbait fished Lake World’s catfish tournament Friday evening-Saturday morning. Ended up catching 29 striper but most were shorts. We were anchored in 9’ or water where we caught most of the stripers. This time of year stripers and catfish are usually in the same places. As it gets warmer the stripers will move deeper and get away from the cats as they normally stay shallow for the summer.
I may have fished that If I would have known about it. Did it go by most weight or most fish. How did y’all do?

I fished with Gar-heart and we won the tournament with an 8 fish limit that weighed 83 lbs. We had a 30 lb flathead. We would have won tournament without the 30 lb fish. I think second place had 52-53lb. We had the three largest cats weighed in. I will post a pic of Shawn with the big flathead later…
