4/17/11 Sheeps

Headed out to Capers Reef at about 0800 this morning armed with store bought fiddlers from Haddrells. It was a little rough on the way out and we caught spray most of the way. When we arrived we saw only one other boat on the reef. We only saw two boats all day. The sheepshead bite was still strong. We ended up with 15 and probably missed three times that amount. I had two circle hooks straighten and had to change one because it had been dulled by their teeth. The “endangered” black sea bass bite was strong as well. We caught several over 5 lbs. At one point shortly before we headed in, the surface of the water 50 yds away began to boil with fish. The school moved towards us , submerged 15 yds from us and resurfaced on the other side of us, then they were gone. I’m not sure what they were. I couldn’t really get a good look at any one fish. They did appear to be chasing rather than being chased. We headed back in around 5:00. I was suprised to see that all the water in the harbor had been replaced by coffee. I was glad I had decided to go outside the jetties today.

First one of the day.

Just barely hooked him in the lip!

All sheepshead were released to the custody of my freezer!

Nice going, it only could have been better if I had been there!

Well hurry up and come on down. Here is what sheepshead look like after they come home with me and I introduce them to lime pepper and the griddle. Delicious!

If they knew they would look that good they would have jumped in the boat!

That looks great! Glad the bite is picking up for you guys.
