4/18/13 another nice one

Fished the crack this morning chunking plugs. I was throwing a skitter walk and BOSN was throwing a bone spook jr. He caught 3 on top, and the skitter was getting NO love. 1 half hearted swipe. Tried my trusty suspending lure and hooked another nice fish.

She went 21.25" and is still swimming :stuck_out_tongue:

As Got2Go said in his report, the wind shifted and the bite shut off completely later in the AM. We ended up with about a dozen trout and 1 sm flounder for the day.

Water was between 67 and 74 depending on where you were

Thanks everyone. I have been blessed this year with a mess of really nice trout. I owe everything I know on the subject to my mentors, Ralph Phillips and Bob Sanders, so gotta give credit where its due. The big trout are out there. I have heard of three caught over 5 lbs in the past week by very credible sources. All on artificials and all released  I hope to catch a 5 pounder myself soon, that would be awesome.

Nothing like hitting the water before the sun comes up. Throwing your plug towards shore when you can see it was a challenge. Best of all was hearing the strike because it was so quiet. Opti - I thought it was a Red at first. That Gator had some fight in her. Man, the bite sure did shut off quick though. Good day buddy and can’t wait to get out there again.

Ralph taught me just about everything that I know about trout as well. I moved down here in 93. One odd thing that I learned from Ralph is that it is the kiss of death to catch a big one on your first cast.

Actually he is very superstitious about catching any fish on the first cast. He will cast away from the structure and reel in fast. No joke.

You are killing them Dave. Funny ya’ll mention catching on your first cast. It got me to thinking how many time I have caught something on the first cast, thought, “man, this is great” and then caught nothing or very little after that.
