4/2 Windy Report

We waited until the rain got out of here and wet hooks around 9:45. It was the same pattern I mentioned in my previous 2 reports. Though the bite wasn’t as crazy as Thursday and the wind making things challenging, we had a decent outing. Here’s Diddy and Spoon with today’s haul:

Though it didn’t yield any trophy fish like last year, spring break week was pretty good to me!

NICE CATCH! Only three more weeks and I will making the trip south with my grandson.

Talk about wind… I was out fishing a tournament and it was very ruff.

Man ya’ll showed out! Must have been tough in all that wind!

The wind was tough at times while fishing, but not nearly as tough as the wind and waves on the ride back to the landing! Sure made me glad I wasn’t in a small boat. Even so, we all got wet on the ride back. No way to stay dry with wind and waves like that. Fogman did a great job, putting us on fish and managing the boat under some very rough conditions.

I read where a bass boat was capsized claiming the life of one. :frowning: It was very dangerous Saturday and I too was soak and wet from my ride back to the ramp on Clark Hill. The ole skiff beat me to death but she got us back safe and sound…

I saw the search plane yesterday morning & also heard a helicopter. At the time I didn’t know what was going on. The wife told me when I got home. Sad news to hear.

Very sad news on the loss of life of a fellow Lake Murray boater.
Kudos for anyone game enough to get out there on the water in that kind of wind. Not me. In fact, Saturday I ventured out on my motorcycle and turned around after fighting it for 3 miles.

We were out there Friday and Saturday. Saturday was beyond nautical, for sure. Saw plenty of guys that had no business out there in that mess. Some guys figure since their bass boat can go 70mph, it needs to go that fast all of the time. We watched several boats come by us and nearly dump both driver and passenger out of the boat. The bow of the boats was either pointed towards the sky or under water as it speared a wave. There are days when we should all heed the warnings but if you’re going to go, drive like you got some smarts. There’s not a fish on this planet worth your life or the lives of those riding with you.

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.

Amen to what Archer wrote. My boat is built to take those kind of conditions. However, even taking it slow, we all got soaked when I had no choice but to run in the “ditch” heading back to the ramp. I underestimated how rough it was going to get based on how it looked when we started. Let’s all be careful out there. My prayers go out to the family of the young man who lost his life.

I hadn’t even heard about this one until my wife mentioned seeing it on the news yesterday. Hopefully, the outcome will be different this time, but not looking very good.

Looks like some of those stripers deserved a second chance to be still swimming in LM!

I release infinitely more fish than I keep. Unless I’m in a tournament, most fish over 10 pounds are photographed and put right back in the lake. However, if I or my partners need fish for the table, I’m not above keeping a few. I adhere to what I believe Bill Dance says on his show, “keep what you can use and released the rest.”

Lake Murray is a put and take striper fishery meaning that the stripers are stocked with the intention of them being caught and eaten. Keeping fish to eat is not a bad thing. One of my complaints with today’s fishing shows is the concept that all fishing should be catch and release. They may not actually say it, but they demonstrate it. I like fish and will keep legal fish to eat when I desire to.
Nice day, Fog. Thanks for the report.

OK. Thread completely derailed now, sorry.
