4/23 Report and Lowrance Problems

Put in at Larry Koon and headed to Wessinger. Lowrance would only show a white screen so relied on the iPad for map only. Picked up a few shorts and a couple keepers. Moved to Susie Ebert with about the same success. Kept playing with the Lowrance but it just wouldn’t cooperate. Final move was the point at Beards creek and headed toward Johns. There seemed to be more fish in this area, even though I couldn’t prove it with the graph. Ended the morning with 13 keepers between 6-9lb and @ 15 shorts. All caught on weighted planers and free lines in 30-60’ of water. Lowrance finally came on towards end of trip but I checked it yesterday and it had went back to a white screen. Anyone had similar problems? It’s a HDS 7 Gen 1.

Was that you I talked to about 7:30 at the east point of the island? I was in the old red Lund.

I stayed in that area till I quit about noon. Ended up with 13 total, with 3 decent keepers 5 - 6lbs. Missed quite a few on short strikes. Thought about moving but was still kind of hoping I’d find a planer board with a rod & reel connected to it.

On a side note. I’m having minor issues with my Elite 7 HDI. Nothing serious. For some reason I can’t zoom on the chart when I’m using the split screen.(chart/sonar) It used to work like that, now it zooms on the sonar instead. I can switch to chart only & zoom on it though. Not a big deal, just curious why it might have changed. To my knowledge, I haven’t changed any settings.

I don’t think so. We started on west side around that same time, but I saw a couple boats on the other end.

on my HDS, you can only zoom on the screen on the left when split. I assume this is considered the “main screen”. if I select the chart page and then move down to split with sonar, I can zoom on the chart. If I select the sonar page and then move down to split with chart, I can zoom on the sonar. hope this makes sense.

Bob, when you have a split screen, you should be able to zoom on either one. Change the active screen by hitting the page button twice without switching pages. There should be a blue? line on either side of the center line showing you which side is “active”…the one that the zoom will work on at that time.

Thanks Tim. I’ll try that next time I’m out.

Barbell, I thought an HDS may be the same as on our E-7’s, but looks like instead of hitting the page button twice, you just hold the page button down for a second or 2 to switch active screens.

Thanks. If I can get it to come back on, I will try it.

Also, as far as the flakiness, the first thing I would do is check what version of SW you have installed and update it if it is not the latest.

Tim, I played with it in the shop on simulator mode and got it figured out. Works just like you said. I must have hit the page button twice sometime or another.
Thanks a bunch!

One more day of vacation before heading back to New York. In the morning we will put in at Koons and run across to Wessinger and work that area. Looking at Bear Creek and was thinking on starting at bear island and working up towards Bear Creek.

The flat in front of Larry Koon was holding fish Friday nigh and Saturday night right before dark. Morning bite was nonexistent.

Happy bob I was in the boat you talked to on the point of the wessinger. Glad to hear you did well! We caught our only keeper of the day right after we talked you. Pulled the big water side with only a few shorts.

skrimpanspots, you should have worked the cut between the island & mainland where I was. Not much in the way of keepers, but there always seemed to be fish biting.
