Started the day early! A little to early, went to McD’s for a biscuit and at 2:30am they were still serving dinner, settled for 2 burgers and a coke for Breakfast! Hit the water at 3:30 and were happy that we did! Had decided to fish offshore of the 380 hole and we were met with a ocean dead in our face - averaged about 25, so after a 3 hour ride we started fishing! Picked up a Bonito right away and made a Rookie mistake - left fish to find fish! Trolled out deep for about 2 hours with no luck, so we returned to where we started - 1200 feet in 76.6 degree water (early morning temp) Bam - 3 rods go off - 3 in the box, a few minutes later 2 more in the box - ended the day with 11 dolphin and 4 more that got lucky (early season mistakes)! Ride in was at 42-44!! Anybody getting the chance to go should run about 8-10 miles past the 380 hole looking for early morning temp break around 76.6, once you find it, troll with the current!
***On a another note while on the water today one of our engines became very thirsty and used up 2.5 gallons of oil??? I had 1 gallon of extra oil on the boat but knew we would not have enough to make it in - we got stopped by DNR about 20 miles out and Greg Brown with the SCDNR was kind enough to give us his own stash of oil so that we could make it in safe! Just wanted to mention a positive about the things these guys/gals do for us!
