Back to back trips offshore turned into a freezer full of mahi with plenty left over to send to the restaurants Coal Fired and Bacon Brothers back in Greenville.
We found a great line on Sunday and had 8 rods screaming on the first pass-every line went down SE of the 380. It wasn’t long before we saw 30+ boats in the area. Lucky for us the fishbox was full by 8am-Matt even caught a nice dolphin on the fly rod. I’ve never experienced a situation where we were trying to not catch fish, but we didn’t have any room left in the boxes so we tried to keep the dolphin off the lines the best we could. We ended up tagging 3 and releasing them, so we’ll see where those guys end up.
After that we put out our biggest lures to keep the dolphin at bay in hopes of snagging a blue. We spotted a nice 400lb blue from the tower as he followed the teaser for several minutes. Too bad he didn’t take the bait though…
Monday wasn’t as easy of a trip as Sunday was. The water was a little choppier and we didn’t have a single fish in the boat by 1130AM. So we gave Roffers a quick call from the sat phone and they gave us a good location to try. Talk about life-saver! We found part of an inflatable boat bobbing around those coordinates and once again every line went off. It turned into another day packed full of Mahi. You can’t complain about fish boxes being full 2 days in a row.
Looking forward to getting back out there. Hope you all enjoy the pics!
