Went out on the new boat for the first offshore fishing trip of the year. Left out of Remley’s at 0500ish and ran out to Y73, lots of weed on the way out, didn’t see much life around it though so we continued on. Got to Y73 and not another boat in sight. Dropped the lines and started loading up on Beeliners and Porgies, couldn’t get anything else to bite. Tried Shrimp, Mullet, Squid, and some Jigs. Was about to head back inland a ways when one of the rods went off. Reeled up the biggest bluefish I ever caught approx 36" maybe bigger. Was about to grab him and another boat said they wanted it for bait, so gaffed it and handed it over and they were nice enough to take this picture. Overall it was a good first trip in the boat, we caught some fish, and most of all made it in safe.
Nice job. We rolled up to Y-73 later and had a hard time staying on structure with the wind and waves.

That is one fine bluefish…you do know they’re good to eat…?
I’m not a fan of eating them, maybe I just haven’t cooked them right.

I have to agree with obsessed. I’ve eaten bluefish many ways cooked by many people who swear they can make them taste great. There are a lot of things i can go the rest of my life without doing again and eating another bite of bluefish is right around the top of that list lol. My uncle loved them, thought they were the best fish in the ocean. Everyone has their taste buds i guess.
