4/28 folly river

put in the folly river about 1hr before low tide, anchored up near bowens island

we were after reds, but landed 1 spotted trout. fish was probably big enough to keep, but I didn’t have a ruler on the boat so I let 'em go

we both missed a few after that, but only landed the 1 trout

I was fishing carolina rig w/ mud minnows, & my buddy was using a popping cork w/ mud minnows

the 1 fish caught, i left my line out for probably 20 minutes to eat a snack & fiddle w/ another reel, i started reeling in my rig to re-position it since it hadn’t budged a bit for 20 minutes, apparently a trout had an eye on it, as i was reeling i felt a hit, totally didn’t set the hook as it surprised me, so i paused & continued to reel in as before, & felt the hit again, this time i was ready, hooked up & landed a smaller trout, possibly legal, but too close to be sure. i was holding him in the water waiting on my buddy to dig out his phone to snap a picture, but the trout wiggled away from me, no harm no foul, probably wasn’t worth a picture anyways, except to have made this post a little better lol

My buddy and I missed a bunch on Monday. That seems to happen a lot after rain. I think the dirty water makes it hard for them to get a lock on the lures and grab them. Just my guess.

i may have been jumping the gun on my hook sets as well, a few of my minnows came up w/ bloody back halves, most likely pinfish or me snatching the bait to quick, also could’ve been structure too i guess

try using circle hooks and letting the hook do most of the work…

just a couple little red dots on the back 1/2 of the minnows, either something nibbling on the minnow or me dragging it through oysters probably
