4-30-11 Sheeps Late Post

I fished with Punisher 21 Saturday on Capers Reef. Only 1 boat on the reef when we arrived and plenty of chop just before sunrise. We anchored up as the sun began to peek over the horizon. Lines were in the water a few minutes later and the bite was on. The sheepshead bite was steady for most of the morning and into the afternoon. Once the waves layed down conditions were near perfect. A sea turtle surfaced off of the bow and stayed with us most of the day. Saw plenty of jellyfish as well. Around noon or so the BSBs and ringtailed pinfish began to jump into the mix. While we fished for sheep we also had a couple of TLD 15s baited with squid in the water, one on a balloon, the other on the bottom. The bottom rig went off once and I landed a 3 foot shark. A little later Punisher was reeling in a nice sized sea bass when, out of nowhere, a six foot shark slammed it and took off with it, stripping line off of his reel. After a short fight, the shark spit the bass out. I doubt he survived the release judging by the number of teeth marks in him. We kept 26 sheep and probably threw back the same amount. We left them biting at about 2:30 to head to the weigh-in. We didn’t win the tournament but still had an awesome day on the water. Congrats to Bonzo on his win and to everyone else who placed.

thanks man…looks like LOTS of sheeps were biting that day!
