4 blade props

I have a 1996 26 Regulator with 2015 200hp yammies. Currently have 3 blade props but somebody suggested looking at 4 blade. I cruise at 28-29knots @3900-4100rpm. What difference would I notice? I read some threads here and just looking or some clarification

4 BLADES WILL TYPICALLY GIVE YOU ADDITIONAL STERN LIFT, AND THE ABILITY TO STAY ON PLANE AT LOWER SPEEDS.
THEY WILL ALSO HAVE A LOWER TOP END, AND BURN A BIT MORE FUEL AT ANY GIVEN RPM.
THEY ARE GREAT FOR OFFSHORE BOATS LIKE YOURS WHEN IT GETS ROUGH AND YOU WANT TO SLOW DOWN BUT STAY ON PLANE.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

I don’t know the science behind it but I hear 4-blades diminish your steering control when backing.

thanks Chris- that is what I was looking for!

Like chris said, 4 blade props sure improved the proformance of my 25’ Downeaster with twin 225s, I use a 5 blade on my 250 while pulling a net and it won’t back up, not easy to get off traier!

What Chris V said. I owned a 26 Reg for years and I think a 4 blade would help on the rough days that you have to run a lot of tab. In my experience, a 4 blade has more stern lift and the boat runs more level without trim tab. The trade off is a lower top in speed.

I’d go to THT and pose the question there because I’d want to hear from 26 Reg owners before going through the time and cost of swapping props plus I’m sure a number of Reg owners have already done this and can probably tell you the exact prop to get.

If running a single engine without Hyd Steering they take away a lot of steering torque. On an old glitter boat, I lost 8mph top end.

Before you invest in two props, start networking and see if someone will let you try a set. A few prop shops will sometimes loan, just know if you mess one up you’ve bought it.

Thanks. I looked through THT and a couple of the conversations got a little to much for me. I like the idea of the stern lift. Not worried about top end speed as much as comfort and efficiency. This just another project to consider. Appreciate the ■■■■■■■■
