4 stroke carburetor questions

I have a Honda 90 four stroke needs the carbs replaced. How many hours of labor for a shop/mechanic to replace four carbs (billable hours labor)?

Also, I understand that, since ethanol became common, this has been a frequent problem for Hondas that sit for as few as two weeks without use. This winter I used fuel stabilizer. I also winterized by disconnecting the fuel line while running the engine.

Evidently not good enough. A mechanic now tells me I need to drain each carb if it’ll sit for any time at all or I’ll be looking at a rebuild at the very least. Thoughts or comments on that?

Frankly a rebuild sounds great to me at the moment.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Why do the carbs need to be replaced? It’s common for carbs to become fouled while sitting for an extended time with gasoline in them, but it is very uncommon for them to be ruined. What’s up with yours?

In the boating industry for over thirty years.

Tom, I have not spoken with the guy directly since he determined they they were beyond repair. I will go over to see him and the carbs Monday.

Thanks for the responses and good advice, but does anyone know the answer to my question on billable hours for replacing four carburetors?

Four billable hours for a rebuild. Had it done on a mercury 50 four stroke a week ago. Carb Kit was 174.00 total for 4 kits. Total around 500.00

sounds right
