4 stroke Fuel Pump?

Got my 2004 Johnzuki 140 4-stroke mounted up and running on the muffs.

I’ve ran it twice, the first time for about 20 minutes a week or so ago, and it purred. Fired it up again yesterday after permanently installing the new hardware (harness, key switch, systemcheck tach, etc.) and again it fired right up and purred–for about 20 minutes. The, she a-spit and a-supttered, wouldn’t rev up and finially cut off.

Would sometimes restart, but only for a second or two.

What I noticed was the humming/buzz that was present at first when you turn the key on, which I imagine is the electric fuel pump under the cowl, is not present anymore. You can barely hear a sound from under the cowl now when you turn the key on.

I am less than thrilled about this. Looking at parts disgrams, the pump is housed within the fuel/vapor seperator. Anynow have any tips or experience with troubleshooting these bad boys? Or, more importantly, and I totally missing something here? I’ve got a service manual, and I feel fairly comfortable tearing into it, but I just don’t want to blindly throw parts at it.

The cute little cam-driven low-pressure fuel pump seems to be working fine, the pre-filter is full of gas.

As always, any help would be appreciated.

ok this is a good opne. ive had this problem before. On the very back of the engine on the back of the valve cover, there is a lift pump. on the top of the valve cover is a vent hosethat routes up into the flywheel cover. disconnect the hose from the top of the valve cover and see if it keeps running after that. i have seen these hoses get pinched in the flywheel cover which builds up pressure inside of the valve cover and doesnt let the diaphram in the lift pump do its job. check that and see if it helps.

MAN.

Turns out it was a pinched feed line. Apparently the lines have re-run to where the cowling can interfere with them, so I tucked 'em back in. I guess because the fuel flow was restricted, the pump wasn’t making any noise.

Talk about feeling both elated and stoopit at the same time.

But she’s runnin’ now. Thanks again!
