My 40 2 stroke runs wide open for a while then it will slowly loose power, if I trottle it back and then give it the juice it will starting running wide open again for a while. Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing it?

Holy crap that is the same exact problem I had with my 50 2-stroke yamaha. It was the carbs which I had cleaned if it is not what chris v said.
EXACT SAME PROBLEM with my 40 yamaha 2 stroke.
Why does backing off and right back on clear the fuel issue??
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
Because at lower speed = less fuel burn which allows bowl on carb to fill up with fuel and it will hold you for a while until the bowl runs out again at WOT.
