With the wind blowing hard for what seems like for the past month and the NOAA forecast calling for 2 to 4 inside 20 NM I decided to give the reef a shot. Fishing during the week is not an option and you cant predict how many shots a season you’ll get. Left the dock about 10:30 am with the wife and kids in tow. Nice long swells on the ride out. Riding past the NE Nearshore there must have been 6 boats there. Arrived at 4 KI to about 7 boats which is the most crowed I have seen in while. 3 of the boats were on the ship so we went to the 300’ barge.
Proceeded to slay the BSB and varoius other reef fish. Bait was squid. Most of the BSB were small. All fished released. The kids enjoyed it. Got to break in my new Shimano Socorro. Nice reel. We ended up staying on the barge all day. No spades, cobia, cuda or spanish. I guess it needs to warm up a bit. Has anybody dove the reef lately to see if there is any life down there?
The kids started to tire and passed out. Decided to call it a day. Came back in on a nice following sea.
fool proof kids lure. No more tangled zebco’s!
Kept the kids entertained by putting reef fish in the livewell.
