me, MIC LITE and Buddha left Wappoo with another boat around 7 heading to the reef.
found 2 jelly balls within the jetties. really snotty ride out there and it rained most of the way too. picked at the sheeps for a little while waiting on the spades. finally saw these knuckleheads pull up and they brought the spades!
the Hammond bros proceeded to school us all on how to catch spades…finally MIC LITE too their advice and lightened up on his fluoro leader and BLAM…fish on
notice cuda marks…

although I was a bit green the first half of the day I did enjoy chasing the spades around and seeing them like that…next time I will focus on catching some! good seeing some familiar faces out there too. thanks to MIC LITE for donating his fish to the Bonzo family household for din-din tonight!

I wish I would have got a picture of Bonzo on the bow spotting jelly balls. He’s a trooper, it was pouring down yet he continued to hunt. True Fisheman!! Where was I??? Hiding under the T-top. Smart Fisherman!!
Oh to the Hammonds. If only we would have had a can of dip you would have had more fish for Mrs. Bonzo.
I would have thrown lead sinkers at these guys for getting so close…
Also, that is one heck of a spadefish gaff…
funny enough they started throwing menhaden at me! I almost caught one in the teeth. and yes, jerms was trying to gaff them while I was trying to dip net them. did manage to hit one and pissed the rest of them off.

yea, he was using the “light leader” trick! that was pretty good, us chasing them swatting at them with gaff and nets and you with rod doubled over laughing at us…good trip, I enjoyed getting schooled…

Those spades are very finicky. Seems like you can hammer them for 2 weeks then they are around but dont bite. Very frustrating. I haven’t been yet and I hope I didn’t miss the bite.
