me and buddy head out of folly landing to 4ki. leave stono inlet, 7 miles later,1.3 miles from THE SPOT, motor dies. WTH. screw with it for 45 mins with no luck, call capt mike with sea tow and get them on the way.35 mins later we find/fix the problem and cancel sea tow.
proceded to the spot and anchored right the 1st time. 45 mins later pulled anchor with limits of almost 2# average blackfish. little bumpy going out and nice coming back. threw back 150 blackfish to get our 30. NO SHARKS!!!
thanks to sea tow for being there when i thought i needed them.

the fitting coming out of the top of the gas tank was rotted through. plastic tank, aluminum elbow with aluminum nipple. 3 year old sea pro. the alum nipple was about 1.5 inches long threaded on 1 end with a hose barb on the other and had rotted in half where the hose barb started.
visual inspection was fine but the tug test pulled it in half.
boat was recently serviced with fuel system inspected and carbs rebuilt due to ethanol.
Just purchased sea tow at boaters world along with new ff/gps…Hope to never need them but would rather have the opportunity to call them instead of CG…and only pay $150 for it
Folly Basser, think I saw you yesterday. Were you in a SeaPro bay boat? I only saw 2 other boats there yesterday, a walkaround and you. I was in the 19’ Seafox c/c with green hull.
Thinking of running Folly ramp to 4KI next saturday; haven’t been down there yet. Also haven’t been out of Stono inlet since labor day. Do you run out to sea buoy or head south closer to inlet? I marked 5’ on the sounder far out from the inlet and I’d guess sand has shifted since then.
We did pretty good. We got there at 9:00 and only fished one spot for about three hours and came in. The ride out was a little bumpy but the ride in was much more pleasant. We Caught a whole bunch of bsb, kept about twenty nice ones. Most were between 13-15" but had a few that were at 20". We caught one small-undersize grouper, hooked a couple of things that were quite larger than the sea bass but ended up cutting us off, probably a nice size sheepshead or grouper.
I have the channel and bouys marked on my GPS but I just look for where there is no white water and go through there. Low tide there can be tricky if you have never been through there before, just remember that white water/breaking waves = shallow water. I do some diving at 4KI and have seen a little bit of everything there, even a goliath grouper and amberjack. The water looked pretty clear yesterday too and I was wishing I would’ve put some dive gear on the boat so I could spear some fish also.
On my new Gps/ff it has all the contours of coastal waters preloaded so hopefully navigation out of any other inlet other than the chas harbor will be much easier. also has all the tide charts and moon charts preloaded so I’m hoping for safe trips through
I hate to say it but you seem like the type I am going to read about in the paper one day. Please don’t rely on charts and GPS or even channel markers. Inlets are constantly changing!!! Especially Stono Inlet!!!
Thanks for the report. It’s been a long time since I caught keeper BSB’s in less than 80 ft.
If the “1 ft or less” holds, I’m going tomorrow & hope for some B-liners as well.
Folly Basser, and all other Seapro owners, I too, had a complete failure of the anti-siphon tube connector on the fuel tank right about 3 years after purchase of a new SeaPro SV2100. the tube corroded and broke, not something that you would ever expect to happen and certainly not on a 3 year old boat. Ruined a good fishing day!
