4th of July fireworks on the water

I’m thinking about doing this with the family. I can do it from a private landing, so wouldn’t have to deal with Remley’s and such.

But it is still knucklehead drunk traffic and idiot city out there, from what I understand.

Is it worth it? ie: are the fireworks that much better on the water to deal with running the gamut at night?

No, don’t bother. I swore it off about five years ago. Its just not worth dealing with the morons. If you can leave the boat at a private dock somewhere and come back for it the next day, that works, but even then, it seems like only those with fish and skis that like to go 12 mph are on the water on the fourth.

What 23 said.
I gave up back in 2004.
It was crazy then; I can only imagine what it’s like now.

I tried it once back in 2006 or 20007 2007. The amount of drunks and unsupervised kids driving their dads’ big boats was incredible. The wakes in the harbor and rivers was like trying to drive a boat in a hurricane without all the wind and rain. That was the first and last time I’ll do that.

The three times a year most only use their boats I make sure mine is high and dry with the cover on it.

Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Fourth of July. Its not worth the aggrivation…

Don’t forget the Coast Guard might run over you. After all they couldn’t see a banana yellow boat with white lights running around the gunnels.

Don’t go. Leave the boat on the trailer. We tried it once years ago and every idiot drunk in the state showed up. When the show ended it looked like a shotgun start at a fishing tournament, only at night with no running lights for most. I stayed anchored for another hour hoping to avoid the chaos. Leeds ave boat ramp was a nightmare. People actually deliberately blocking my access to a slip at Duncan’s that I had that summer because they thought I was breaking into line for the ramp.Heard it was generally the same at the other landings.

Get a camera and score cards…go to the nearest ramp at the end of the fireworks…makes for great family fun:smiley:

I must admit, y’all have me thinking about hanging out at Remleys just to watch the debacle as folks leave.

Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.

i always went to pats point for fireworks down here and no way id wanna be in the water during that drunkfest! getting out of the parking lot there is enough, let alone a boat ramp. on the other hand i love capnsandbars idea. once i get home all i need to do is drop the tailgate of my truck in my own driveway as the fireworks get set off in a park on the other side of a corn field below my front yard. the traffic afterwards SUCKS and yup fun to watch all the idiots

Last time we did a public ramp, we saw three fist fights and a guy putting his boat on the wrong trailer cussing the driver of that truck out, lol. We’ll be watching the fireworks from the park.
