5/1/09 Hartwell report

Tried something today I am have not done in freshwater, we fished cut bait for stripers. Not sure about other lakes but a LOT of guys do this around here this time of year. They just run the boat up on a big long point and throw out 4-8 lines on bottom and sit and wait.

Ended up with 4 fish and largest being 10 lbs but lost a very good fish as well. Also picked up several small cats and spotted bass.

Seemed to get the hang of it but may have to install a Keelguard on the boat

What area were you fishing? I have been using the same tactics in the martin creek, seneca river area to no avail! I think the fish have moved on down the lake. Any advice would be appreciated.

Why do today What you can put off til tommorrow to go FISHING!

tprice, instead of having to worry about messing up your keel, why not just anchor in shallow water off the point and cast from there? Use a front and back anchor to keep the boat from shifting around.

I wish I had my cajun anchor but left it at our beach house, it would help, 2 anchors are a PITA to me. It is very easy to just pull right up on the bank and throw out 6 or so rods and the boat does not move at all.

We were up Tugaloo section just fishing main points ont the lake, shallow points work best. We would stay an 45 minutes or so if we did not have a bite we moved. Normally the fish will hit within 15-30 minutes if they are there
