5/1 South

B-day trip for my 12 year old. Her first trolling trip, caught her first dolphin in nice seas down south.

10 for 13 on gaffer dolphin
1 for 1 on the Mako

All caught in 2 hours then on the hill at 1 pm

Great pic. Looks like she had a blast!!! The little one looks like she isn’t quite sure yet.

Good job on the fish, I know she had a blast. Hopefully y’all got that mako in a little safer than our crew did a week ago!

Nice work Mark!

Regardless, great trip and the kids will remember that forever!

Nice work…Can’t wait til the kids are old enough to enjoy this experience. Did you target the mako? If not, what did it hit on?

Yeah fished a weed line in 250-400 temp break from 71 - 73. Took no pictures of the dolphin since there was nothing special, just teenage 12-18lb range cows. Like I mentioned in original post all fish were in the boat fast, like in 2 hours fast. Truth be told we never had time to get a full spread out and about 45 minutes of fishing time was devoted to tail wrapping and dragging (DROWNING) the mako, that is one STRONG fish by the way.

As far as boating safely, the fish never felt steel until it was basically dead, double tail wrap, long drag with sliced up gills did it in. When it hit the deck it was barely twitching and got gutted immediately and packed with ice. Oh yeah, Mako guts smell worse than anything short of rotten squid and will make the new guys chum, quite entertaining when the 12 year old girl is laughing at the tattoo’d Navy SeaBee barfing over the side  Props for him tho, he never complained and worked right through it, earned another trip tomorrow with me that way.

I might need a “BAND*” Aid

LOL, that is hard core! I was wondering how you did the mako in. Appreciate the info. Worse thing I’ve smelt that had the same result is a chicken rendering plant. But I’ve not gutted a large shark yet…
