5/15 Bandarstick

Left town Thursday pm for a weekend of fishing aboard the Bandarstick. Originally had planned to head out of Bohicket Friday and possibly do an overnighter, but the weatherman put a nix on that idea. That was all well, because it gave us a chance to do some needed work on my friends boat. We left the marina at 3:30 AM and had good moonlight until it set around 4:30. Still getting used to the electronics and radar so we took it easy until we cleared the 2 NE bouy. Headed 55 miles S/E to the Ed Banks and had a following sea, thankfully. The Bandarstick is not a particularily fast boat, but she is very steady.
Got lines in around 7:30 with our goal to outfish the Brainstorm fishing further up north. Didn’t have much action until about 9:30 when we had our first knockdown in 180 ft on the ledge. Dallas was the first one up and after a 10-15 min battle, we had the skunk out with a 20#er. Continued to head north toward the Terrace and Michael put us on two more, one gaffer and one slinger. Then headed toward 226. About 8 miles shy of the Hole, we picked up three more in 250-300 ft. Tally for the day was 6 out of 7, with one loss at the gaff. Caught 3 mahi’s on blue and white islanders, 1 on a pink and blue squitch, 1 on a Black Bart, and 1 on a pink/yellow islander. Trolled two naked ballyhoo’s but nothing ever touched them. Also trolled the lucky red/white Mann’s stretch but nothing touched it either. Never saw much of a weedline, but we did see a Domino’s pizza box that we didn’t get anything of off, guess they like Papa John’s. At 2, we decided to pickup, and head to the North Hole for an overnighter. We put out our high speed lures and brought the boat up to speed, unfortunately the port engine would not go past 2000 rpms (?turbo problem). We decided to nix the overnighter idea and make the 60 mile journey back on one engine at 11 knots. On the way in we did hear the Coast Guard asking for assistance. Said there was a 25 ft Sea Pro fishing the Edisto Offshore that had not returned to port. Anyon

Fished 5/17, not 5/15!

sorry to hear about the motor. hopefully it is something simple, but parts on the yanmars are not cheap. have michael give me a call if he needs help finding someone to work on them. mike collins does great work. i’m not sure if he goes all the way down there, though. otherwise i am sure anthony will get you fixed up and on the water.

good going on your day. definitely put some dinner on the table. i am shocked that the old plug did not produce. that thing is a certified sailfish killer.
