5/16 Another first Marlin!

Man oh man the Marlin bite is pretty good right now! Headed out to the 226 and put lines in at 180’. Caught a teener dolphin on a planner rod before we even had all the lines out. After that it was sloooow. About 10:00 the short rigger starts screening and the fight was on! The fish put on a great show clearing the water multiple times and then started grey hounding. The fight was over in about 20 minutes, The hook was removed followed by a successful release.

We pecked around the rest of the day only managing 8 dolphin. It was really a pretty slow day. Most fish were caught in the 300-350’ range.

Congrats! Did he run up in a spread that you had set for dolphin, or was that set out as a “marlin lure” off a flat line?

We were just dolphin fishing and he hit a ballyhoo rig with a Rattle Jet. So it was pretty much an accidental fish but I will take those too.
