5/16 Oregon Inlet

We went up to Oregon Inlet to try to catch some tuna on the Point Runner. Weather was not so good - 10-12’ and 40 knot winds in some of the squalls in the morning. We decided to fish a weedline at Diamond Shoals instead of going straight out to the “Point”

Found the weedline and plenty of dolphin but not a single tuna. Kept 31 dolphin. Was interesting fishing in 10’ seas - two had their head in a bucket all day.

The crew were great as usual.

As my luck would have it - they caught 8 tuna, 5 dolphin and a 450-500 pound blue the next day after the weather settled down.

OK I have my deflective shield on so have at it. But how much of that dolphin is just going to get freezer burned from sitting in the freezer for the next 6 months…it gets ridiculous (and I’m not calling these people here ridiculous) but time after time you see 4 or 5 guys sitting with fish you know are never going to get eaten. Maybe that is why the fisheries meeting is calling for more restrictions. And I understand we (fishermen) are not the only ones to blame for this and I wish there were an easier answer but often it does seem like overkill.

who are you to say how many fish these guys can eat…you throw back what you want…and keep your mouth shut

well worded “slaya” go play your banjo

PBunn,

Great killing sir!

What kind of boat were you in that didn’t get you hurt in 10’ to 12’ and 40knts?

I’m buying one of those whatever it is!

Good day on the dolphin.

Pretty amazing how those boats handle the big seas. I never thought it was possible to fish in that kind of stuff, but they seem to do it pretty regularly up there.

Maybe that’s a family group who likes to have large fish fry’s! When we go it’s 6 guys from my family and we keep most legal edible fish because we’re going to have FISH for 30-40 people 2-3 times over the summer. We fish once a year and we eat all we catch and our friends/families wish we’d caught more. I agree with your point IF THEY’RE NOT going to eat them then don’t keep all of them but at the same time 40% of the fish they put back likely go belly up anyway so either way the fish take a beating. If you’re the guy who kills the 10pt buck walks up and takes the head for a mount and leaves the meat to rot don’t come near me, but if you are in it for food and sport have at it just don’t waste it!

You gonna talk or FISH!

31 fish and 6 guys that’s about 5 fish each, not really that much. I vacume seal all of my fish that go into the freezer and they are just as good when they come out for a meal.

Dark Star

We brought back 160 pounds of fillets split between 6 people - about 26 pounds each. I have given a third of my share away today to friends at work. There will be no waste, but its none of your ■■■■ business.

I plan to kill as many as I can on my boat this weekend. I don’t waste fish.

As my son said earlier, 10-12 was really not much worse than 5 footers on my 23’ boat - a 60 foot Carolina boat is a big boat.

I’ll post a picture later of another 60 footer running beside us with only the antennas and radar sticking up above the waves.

BRAVO!!!

If the fish won’t bite, strap on a tank go down and make em!

The seas were worse than the picts show. These were about 10 footers when the squalls were not coming through. It really wasn’t that bad for fishing except for the 2 guys with their heads in the bucket.

Here’s the weedline

Thats a nice looking Ocean

Thats not alot of meat when split 6 ways, like he said 26lbs each thats about 6 meals for 4 grown adults.

Man those are some big seas to fish in, rockin and rollin.

Dern, that looks down right nasty right there.

I’m sure those pictures don’t really do it justice either. I don’t care how big the seas are, when the other boats start disappearing in the waves, it’s big enough!

Glad you guys tore up the fish.

23,

I’d have been scared sh$#%less in my boat or anybody I know’s boat.

They tell me they fish in worse stuff in the winter for the bluefins.

We knew it would be bad when we left the dock, but honestly it was not bad to fish in that boat. I was surprised. We had 7 on at one time and got all of them (we got to wire and gaff a few ourselves).

The crew is great on the Point Runner. If they know you have some experience, they let you do your thing.

The mate wore his butt out clearing grass all day.

there aint a fish in the ocean worth that

I was on that boat and thoroughly enjoyed the day with my son and friends. The sea was unbelievable. My son and I gave friends and family about 2/3’s of our fish. We vacuumed packed the remainder for the freezer. We are sportmen and do not kill game or catch fish that are not consumed. Please do not condemn us without knowing the facts.

thats borderline between sporty and nautical. nice pics, in a 60’ it aint that bad, just get tired of holding on to something everytime you move

How much was the charter? How many pounds of fillets did you end up with? I bet it was much more expensive than what it would have cost to buy it from Bi-lo and those guys have a mark up and are making money. So you tree huggers please go to your local super market and bug the people who are buying fish and meat there. They are supporting the commercial guys that are catching more in one trip than half the rec guys do all put together a year. Congrats on the day!

Those pics make me nauseated just looking at them.
