5/17 report at Mcmarlin Ldge

Tried getting offshore Saturday morning, but was blowing a gale at 5 AM. Decided to call it and wait till later in the day. About 11am we headed out to the Atlantic Ledge but when we realized the ocean was layin down, I headed on to the Scarp, pulled up just short on some weed east of the Mcmarlin Lgde, hooked up immediately on a small dolphin. Had strikes on and off all evening, bout 5PM the outrigger bowed over and I saw the big bull jumping, didnt realize the line was fouled in the clip and POP, there goes a nice bull! Never had that happen before, the clip never released, somehow got hung up. Hooked up a few minutes later on a wahoo but shook off. Couldnt get a break! That’ll teach me to go offshore with a bunch of light king smackeral rods. Left the ledge at 7:30 PM to come home, running in the trough we came home on a beautiful sea with the moon at our back till I got about 10 miles from Little River Inlet. Then I got my ass handed to me, we hit 6-8fters right in the face and a 10 mile run took two hours. Wheeeeeew! Thank god for Goodies Headache Powders! Best water I saw was 72 degrees all day.

You have to watch your lines at the clip to make sure they don’t get wrapped by the wind/wave action. Sometimes pulling the clip 1 - 2 feet closer to the boat instead of all the way out to the end will solve the problem.

Also try tightening down the cinch lines a little more. That seems to help.
