Late start, lines in at 8 in 250 ft. One knockdown at 350. Picked up a 20# dolphin on a weed line in 700 ft but nothing else there. Headed out and found another weeline with a few boats in 1100 ft. Clip popped at we dropped back and hooked up. Line started tearing off and we had to chase and still almost spooled the penn 30 TW. Fish made one small jump thankfully so we could see that it was a blue marlin and then it sounded. No clue how big but the biggest one we have caught was 250# and it was way bigger than that. It never came up again and the whole time I don’t think we ever moved it against its will, basically just chased it with the boat. Got it close enough to get a look at it one more time and then back down. the hook finally pulled after 40 minutes. . Heartbreaking. Ran back in and got one more nice dolphin on the ledge. Stopped for a few pinks and called it a day. Ocean flat calm all day.
