Jerms and I have been talking about catching grouper like back in the good ole days for a few months now. Yesterday, we finally got our shot.
Weather was exactly as predicted, however we still had a slow go in the morning. My boat needs about three more feet and it could have reached the next wave, but it doesn’t have that three feet…and my back feels it today. Trolled for a while up north and never did get on the bite all that well. First fish in the boat was a remora…my first remora trolling ever. Found scattered weeds all over the ledge, but we never found the bite. Brought two dolphin to the boat and lost one on the gaff.
The plan was all along that if the trolling bite wasn’t hot, we’d bottomfish…our true passion anyways. A wise man once told me that bottomfishing would ruin you for trolling. Wiser words were never spoken. That’s all I think about when we are trolling and roll over a good looking bottom. So that’s what we did and it ended up saving the day for us.
Anyways, the ocean was full of life, we did see a free swimming wahoo all lit up. Beautiful sight. Also saw some busting blackfins, an incredible sight! Ride in on a following swell was lovely.
Bottom bite was good when we could stay on it. Grouper for dinner tonight!!! Get out there and get ya some!
Nice looking assortment of bottom dwellers.
I love the Tuna pic great shot.
I’ve always been a troller but after my day last weekend, the bottom seems to be calling me more. Those scamps are goooooood to eat.
Had some last night blackened and was to die for.
