5/2 - Nice Spot Tails.

Have some friends in town for a few days and I tried to put them on fish Wednesday, without too much success.
We bumped into JR Waites at dinner on Sullivans. Got chatting and he had just got a canx for today.
Filled up the live well in 2 casts, and we were on our way about 7.20.

Had a great morning, one of my friends caught the biggest fish of his life, my highlight was us all having a fish on at same time, smallest around 20lb. Always, always learn stuff when out with a good guide.

Back in time for lunch!

Great shot with three big slobs. Fun stuff. I assume the jetties and menhaden as bait?

Well done!!

Very cool rod holder placement!!!

Looks like they were on the tide line/ledge on the fort sumter side in about 25ft to 30ft of water on the top of the tide/ start of the outgoing, fishing white braid with carolina rigs on spinfishers with live hadens.

Sounds like a good day.

Thank you v much. I kinda get more pleasure out of seeing folks relatively new to fishing catching fish more than if I was catching them. Oh, and I still don’t know if I should call them reds, red drum or spot tails. #128513;

Seems Only old school locals call them spot tail anymore. Might as well join the hip crowd and call em Reds… :smiley: Kind of like our Carolina Gold/ Dolphin turning into Mahi Mahi with the new crowd of fishermen.

Looks like you really did good for your friends! nice pics! English friends? My Aunt and her daughter just left to head back to England.

Hey Fred

I just have an obsession with fitting in.
Long story short, one of these guys was at the Citadel with my bud. He was in town with his BIL who I had never met. I kinda felt responsible having them catch some fish, so when we bumped into JR it seemed fated.
