5/20 dolphin were not here

Beautiful weather day, great sea state, no mahi for us. Worked a great temp break (74 to 78 degrees) from 140 feet to 350 or so. Radio chatter indicated slow bite for many, but someone did catch or hook up a blue marlin. Bottom fished some as well even that was terribly slow. Hope others did better.

We didn’t do very well either. Fished 226 up to 380 and then back inshore to about 250 ft. Only put 3 gaffers in the box and released a peanut. Never found any weed lines and only the 5 bites all day. Radio chatter sounded like a lot of boats had a tough day.

Join the club. Fished edisto banks. Saw some Mahi around 10:00 am, would not hit. Worked from 220 to 160 ft. One barracauda was the only hit all day. Stopped on the way in bottom fishing was very slow. Beautiful day for a long boat ride.

Must be time to pack up the outriggers, break out the bent butt live bait grouper rig, and go full bottom fish mode. Load up on big fat triggers, knot head Black Sea bass, scamps, gags and such.

Not yet! Plenty of Carolina Gold to be gathered…

“live and let live” … “those that deserve it.”

We got 6 nice gaffers at Bubble Rock on Friday. Lost a giant hoo…It was in 850 feet of water…Wierd. Normally get them at the break. Water has been offshore. Who knows…? I got plenty of mahi in the freezer. I’m fishing for Billfish from here out.

We didn’t do well either. Fished 226, 380, the ledge and everywhere in between.

We were out on the May 19th and found some deep, about 1600 feet, on a color change with no weeds or flyers. Read the other posts and all the good reports were deep. There was a big wide finger and the nearshore edge seems to have not produced, but the offshore edge where we were was OK to pretty hot, depending on the report.
