Fished the 226 area lines in around 180ft. On the ride out capt mentions he forgot to put the belts back on the boat. Yikes.
Slow start, first knockdown around 9am an hour later in 330ft, fish comes unglued, my buddy drops it back, fish comes tight again for second then gone, another drop back and he cranks down and comes tight. Fish on…blue marlin. She gave us a brief show before coming lo0se again about a minute later.
Put a few lures out, worked the area until 10am then we see another blue come the spread, she eats and misses, then comes back in and piles on the right long and boom another blue is on. Nobody wanted it sans fighting belt on a 50W so my buddy who picked it up had the pleasure of saying on the rod. Poor guy had the butt buried in his hip & stomach for almost an hour before the leader was touched. We put 2 koozies on the end of the rod but it still brutal. His work was greatly appreciated because it was the first blue for the new boat on its 2nd trip offshore. Fish was #270-300 range and released healthy. Ate a bart pro jet lure.
Trolled deeper found a weed line in 600ft, picked up 8 dolphin. A sail came in and swatted a dangling bait while we had backed off for a minute on a double, but then bailed. Could have probably caught more but had to head back at 1.30pm.
Talked to another boat fishing the weed line who was 0/2 on blue marlin in the same area. Said they broke the hook on a big one.
Pretty hot marlin bite hope they stick around for a while.
