5/20 - Worked Hard off EB

Family got together down at Edisto Beach over the weekend and decided they all had the itch to put some Carolina Gold in the freezer. With a crew of 6, we headed out to Edisto Banks at 4:30 and found a nice sea with the occasional confused stretch. Pulled up at 7:15 and put lines in at 250 feet. Trolled some small rips in 78 degree water for three hours and didnt have a single bite. Had a white marlin put on a 2 minute free dance show about a hundred yards behind our boat, but could get him to eat. With the crew getting antsy, we decided to make our own luck and picked up for another run. Ran another ten miles to 650’ and finally found some scattered weeds and flyers. Water was hot…82 degrees. Lines back out and within 20 minutes my wife had her first ever maui in the boat. Continued along a small scattered weedline and picked up a gaffer fish every 30 minutes or so until around 1. Weeds started to form around 1 and we found a decent patch. Pulled a 25lb cow off of it and as we were taking pictures, I look behind the boat and there are a hundred circling our baits. Time to bust the spinning gear out! Had some frozen squid on the boat and started chumming to them. Within a minute, I hear laughter and drags start to buzz and in come the slingers. Put about 15 in the boat in a 20 minute stretch before everyone decided it was time to set back up for bigger fish. Trolled the same stretch again for another 20 minutes and put another in the box. With a happy and tired crew, we picked up from 71 miles out and headed for home. Missed 5 nice gaffers, but ended up boating 21 and couldve thrown 50 slingers in the boat from that school.

Ran multiple daisy chain teasers and big hookless marlin lures to raise the fish. Didnt matter what color the lure was as long as it was on an outrigger. We had one flat line hit all day. Most fish caught in 1200 to 1400 feet. Had a STUD 40+ lb white bull spit the hook on us. Raised two white marlin and saw a blue free jump in front of us. Saw a ton of life in 90-120’

Nice work Wofford!

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
