5/22 Left Wappoo at 0330 headed out toward 226 and stopped in 200ft of water lines out by 0630. Third line out hit as it was being put out. Nice gaffer in the box. Trolled almost to 226 with no bites then trolled back in to 200ft without a strike. reeled up at 0930 and headed over to the outcrop. Pulled in a slinger once we got there. Darkstar called us over to a place just a little North of the outcrop, and we pulled 4 more fish over there(2 slingers 2 gaffers). We also lost 4 others all in all not a bad day. Thanks again Darkstar for the call over, and one case of German beer coming to you sir for that call. Colors were blue/white, pink/white, and char/blue. Totals 3 slingers and 3 gaffers
5/23 Left out of Riverland around 0345 and caught up with 23SF and crew to buddy boat to the outcrop again. Had lines in at 0620 had a nice gaffer in the box at 0645. Caught 2 more gaffers by 0800. Had a couple of short strikes. Hooked up a big fish that actually broke the costal lock swival just aft of the bend. The swival came back with over 50 yards of line at about 100mph and hit one of the guys on the boat. Hit him so hard it knocked the wind out of him and left a very significant bruise on his chest. Only had three more strikes after that. However, one was a very large Wahoo that spit the hook. When we hooked him up I knew it was big by the bend in the rod, and the fact that we could never actually stop him from taking line in idle and the Tiagra cranked down. Fight lasted a good ten minutes with the angler almost being pulled in. Slow day, but worth it to see a young man try to whip a big fishes @ss and almost get pulled in. Final note 23SF did out do us in fact he kicked our @ss. Going again Wed and possibly Tues. Looking for folks to go.
