5/22 Jetties (w/ pics) and a surprise!

Myself and a co-worker went fishing at the jetties today armed with mud minnows, frozen shrimp, fiddlers and cut bait. Lots of boats out there today. Everybody seemed to have bent rods on board. Shark were ravenous. They took all the cut bait we offered them.

Caught something new today, a pompano! After my buddy reeled one in, I reeled in another! Total of two pompano and 9 shark today! Good fun in the hot sun!

Very cool. I always thought pompano were caught in the surf.

Cool catch for sure! Congrats!

I had a friend tell me he caught 2 Pomps in Goose Creek not all that long ago, I figured he confused it with a jack because he didn’t have a pic. I’m more inclined to believe he was correct now.

I initially thought it was a young jack, but I was wrong

What did the Pomps bite on?

THOSE LOOK LIKE AFRICAN POMPS ; OFTEN MISTAKEN FOR YOUNG JACKS. I CAUGHT 2 IN THE MOUTH OF CAPE FEAR RIVER LAST YEAR WHILE FISHING FOR WHITING …:sunglasses::sunglasses:

Sandfleas around rocks and just near the breakers in the surf are the best thing I’ve used to catch them. Shrimp work too.

Usually the biggest pomp’s of the year are caught at the jetties in the spring or fall as by catch. Especially when the water is that color!

Caught the bigger one on frozen shrimp. Smaller one on a fiddler crab.
