We chartered (family and a college buddy of mine) with Laff-A-Lot on Sunday to fish the “high” seas. Ride out was rough but their 48’ Ocean Yacht took the sea on the nose and kept going. By time we got to the 200 line to starting trolling 2 of our 6 acted like they were near death and another (all three had never been offshore before) acted he might be on his way to calling the dinosaurs too. We are able to get him up and out in the air and he was fine. We finally got lines in around 8:15 due to the long run time because of the head sea and a squall that had some nasty too it. We had an almost immediate knockdown but the Dolphin spit the hook on a nice airborn move
. It was about 45 min until the next fish came and we boated a small dolpin. Another small fallowed pretty quickly. A few more dolphin then we had a nice wahoo blow up on the short rigger but he cut us off. Boated another dolphin and got a surprise wahoo (about 25-30 lbs 40" long). The seas kept getting bigger and closer as the day went. We had two triple headers where we went 2/3 and 1/3 (fish were not quite as agressive as they had been according the Cpt so they kept spitting hooks on short bites). We wound up going 15 for about 22 (several lost right at boat due bad luck with big waves coming at the wrong time) 1/2 on the Hoo’s and a mystery cutoff. We had a good time and got home SAFE. The Thornill’s have a super nice boat and are very freindly folks too. Frank let me learn how to do somethings in the pit which made the trip that much more fun for me. I know there is at least one from our group that NEVER will go offshore again as even after we made home (Swansea,SC) he was still out of it. We had dinner at Water’s Edge before leaving the coast and it was pretty good and the service was very good.
Thanks again to the Thornhill’s we had a good time, caught fish, and got home safely. Cannot ask for more than that! If you’re looking for a charter give them a call!
Oh yeah one more thing I hope the crew on the small singl
