Fished out of Beaufort yesterday around the Deli. Temperature maps showed a eddy and we fished the back (offshore) edge of the eddy at about 78.5 degrees. Caught 7 Mahi (boated 5) all in the 15-20 pound range. Had one double hookup, and one where we let the one we hooked trolling swim and we cast and hooked up its mate on 1st cast. Of note was 4 of the 5 we boated were caught on artificials, two on cedar plugs and two on williamson ballyhoo. The last was on ballyhoo. The one we hooked up casting was with a white tail jig. Seems to me that if you find them, mahi will hit most anything as they are very agressive feeders; reminds me of bluefish in that way. There is often talk on the forum of what mahi were caught on but I am not sure it matters as it Seems like if you find them they will eat anything. Also caught and released a cuda. Question for the forum … seems like weedlines can only exist if the wind is down. Anyone have similar experience? Yesterday (and for last few days) was blowing a steady 10+ kts and could only find scattered weeds, no well organized weed lines or patches of weeds.
