5/27 Ledge Mosquito Fleet

Left the rocks at 0545 little sporty for the 19 footer going out but it calmed down the further we got offshore. Lines in 150’ 74.4 degrees 0830. Nuthing till 0930, dolhin slammed the left rigger then spit the hook. Then nuthin till 1030, picked up an ran southwest in search or warmer water, gave up after 10 miles of running stopped in 200’75.1 degrees to zigzag the ledge. 5 mins bam long line goes off nice cow. Looked down at the temperature 78 degrees. Must have hit a temp/current break went back but never found a distinct change. Kept trolling 30 mins later another dolphin that brought some buddies in close to the boat but I left the spinning tackle at home and had to try to catch them on conventionals with a skirt and a chunk of squid they were interested but never ate the baits. Trolled around some more ended up with six dolphin only one missed fish not including the two under the boat that came with the one cow. Called it day at 4 with no more ice to chill the fish and a two hour run ahead of us. Ocean was like a pond all day, you could lean over the side of the boat and see your reflection. Calmest i have ever seen it. Made 35 mph on the way home and thats fast offshore in a 19 footer. 10 miles from the rocks was like a washing machine. Saw a school of spanish going crazy on some bait fish at the mouth of the jetties but again all I had was big tackle and no spoons to toss em. All in all a slow day would have liked to brought home more fish for the freezer.
never found and weed lines though did find a few weeds grouped up but never found any “mats”/ lines.

Houdini fish:1
Bulls :2 20-25lbs
Cows :4 15-20lbs

Sighted seaturtles 5-8
Bait beer food: $80

good report. sounds like a good trip. you have more cajones than i in heading to the ledge in a 19 footer. this is not a rip on you - i have a 19 footer and dont feel i have the experience to go out that far in her.

Gotta love days like that! Good Job TL!

sounds like a great day and the water looks like a pond! I’ve had a couple days like that when the seas lay down and everything comes together, AMAZING!!!

looks like last weekends drama hasn’t kept the mosquito fleet down!!

the mosquito fleet is careful when they go out, watch the weather well and dont go fishing when there is a chance for afternoon thunderstorms,oh and get awesome gas mileage

Did you ever figure out the difference between 5 miles and 50 miles?

■■■■ water looks nice. Wish I would of went now. Nice day!

Never count the small boats out. Most of us are carefull and pick our days. I personally head for shore at the first sign of something bad. Great pics. If only we had it that good year round
