5/27 Wando Area - First Report

First report, first trip in my own boat, first trip in the creeks off the Wando instead of the ICW, first catch on a top water lure.

Got on the water at 7, stopped at a dock on Horlbeck Creek where I saw some pretty good disturbance along the bank. Tossed out a finger mullet on a cork and let it float down to the dock, then started casting a top water lure the other direction toward where I had seen the water moving. Made a few casts and got the action working pretty well. Made a cast and once I got past where I thought I wanted to be I started reeling a bit faster, the lure dove a couple of inches and I saw a red following it. Slowed my retrieve a hair and it hit hard! The fish made six hard runs before I could get it to the boat to net it.

A quick measure and photo and back in the water! 26-1/2"! I rate this as my best fish yet for all the firsts and for the fight it put up.

Off the water at 9 before the holiday crowd got out, one great fish and done.
