5-28-15 MTP Creek

My uncle is in town and brought 2 yaks in case we had a shot at fishing which we did. We hit the creek at around 5:30-6pm about 30 minutes after a 5.02 high.

Things were pretty slow only seeing a few strikes on first creek(~30 mins). We turned into the main creek and almost immediately the action changed. Lost of bait running 85%: 1" long finger mullet, 10%: 6’-12" mullet, 5% minishrimp. The water was just under a foot high in the grass at the creek edge and the bait was pushing the edges and crossing occasionally. I though I saw ladyfish striking but I believe now they were trout. Caught 1 trout, 1 red and had a ton of misses. Had 3 grubs cut in half, blues I guess. Had a zipping ziggy (topwater) hit several times but they just couldn’t get a hold of it despite a slow retrieve.

More fish would have been nice but the it was great out there. Just enough wind to keep the bugs off till dark, then you had to stick to the middle of the creek to catch more wind. Went to Hadrell’s today to downsize my baits a little. I think it would have yielded more fish. One feeder creek about 20’ long was getting worked HARD, sometimes getting 20 breaks on top in a minutes. It had a submerged oyster bed at its mouth. The action continues the rest of our time where, had to leave around 9pm.
