Recently purchase a 21’ Cobia and have made two attempts to get offshore only to have the weather turn and make a rather rough going. Sunday was perfect and made every attempt to get out early. Unfortunately I made some bad choices in packing and put me way off my mark. On the way to Shem lost my bucket of lures, leaders, and rigs. The best part is I didn’t realize it till we were in the Harbor so I turn around and head back grab the truck and rush down to Hadrells. With new gear intact I head back and finally get back on the water around 8 with two females (seriously all the normal crew on vacation). Immediately we head to the ledge rigging all new leaders along the way causing a little nausea but had to be done.
After some sightseeing along the way we got about 5 miles from the ledge at 11 deployed the lines and got going. Made it about three miles to about 145’ and had three hits in a about 10 seconds. We were able to pull in two dolphin and lost the third. Trolled for about 2 more hours, didn’t see any weed lines, and headed in. Hit the channel for a little bit hoping for some kings but will definitely have to wait for later in the season to find them there.
All in all I feel it was a successful day even with a late start. Two in the fish box and some good times. Definitely had some humor watching my wife dance out out of the way of a dolphin flipping around only to look up and see her suit had fallen down! That put a smile on my face for sure haha. Looking forward to getting back out.
