Was looking to catch some wahoo yesterday to mix it up–been fishing for dolphin too much lately. Took my girlfriend and my friend & his wife and we had a blast.
Fished some structure a few miles north of Edisto Banks looking for wahoo, but nothing going on. Headed out a couple miles and found big dolphin in 200’-250’. Anne reeled in a hoss dolphin from 300+ yards back (tuna line) only to have it cut off on the trim tab–I felt bad as that is a workout! The next dolphin was just as big or bigger, and got that one in the boat. Nice to see some full grown dolphin around. Continued picking at nice sized dolphin.
Worked back over the structure and boated the wahoo I was looking for, and he was a beast.
After that figured we had plenty of meat, so busted out the plugs and went looking for a marlin. Headed out deeper, and found some great water in 400’. Rips, weeds, and bait everywhere. We got the bite on the left long–either a white or small blue. He bill swatted the bait for quite a while, but never pulled any drag. Still fun to watch.
