Was down in Charleston this weekend hoping to go fishing, but the weather made sure that I wouldn’t get a chance to get out on my boat. So on Sunday when the weather died down I decided i needed to get outside and did some fishing on the dock. Normally I don’t catch much off my dock and didn’t expect anything different this time. I threw the cast net a bunch and was shocked to see nothing, even blind throws, if they are good, get me something, (shrimp, minnows, something) but I threw the net a dozen times and got nothing…finally I got 2 6"ish croakers and hooked one of them up to one of my jetty rods with a 4oz egg sinker carolina rig. Fished for a while and got nothing, then boom, to my surprise I got a hit (I thought a croaker was going to be too big for anything around my dock). Based on it’s size i figured it was a decent slot red…then upon reeling it in closer I realized it was a big trout. 22 inches, by a mile the biggest trout I’ve ever caught (17 was the biggest before this one). I had to head in shortly after this catch, but at least the weekend wasn’t a complete bust.

The trout swallowed the hook and while I was able to get it out eventually, in the process I was too focused on the hook and not where my fingers were and the SOB bit me…that probably won’t happen again
