5/30 and 6/1

May 30, 2015

Due to prior commitments on Sunday, we decided to beat our way out Saturday for some grouper jigging. Limited out on nice sea bass, a few porgies and trigger fish and the biggest vermillion I have ever seen:

June 1, 2015

Took a couple of days off from the hospital and ran down to Beaufort to fish with a good friend on his 31 Contender aptly named, Nolo Contendere. Yes, he is a lawyer, and yes we were all required to sign releases before permission was granted to board.

Got off the dock around 4:30-5 and headed straight for an eddy of cool water around the Deli. Fish were there as soon as lines were in. Picked up four or five nice fish within the first couple of hours and then it slowed down. Blue/White with mylar on the port long rigger stayed hit. Not so much on anything else. Put out a couple of lures later in the day and caught more dolpin. The water is hot down south. Worked between 82-86 all day. Attempted to deep drop right before heading home on a few MU numbers but no dice. Great trip with some new and old friends.

That’s a vermillion? Dang [:0]

Sometimes my friends call them beeliners…

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

I’ve always called them beeliners, but never seen one that large. Sweet!

Not sure the vermillion label will hold up in court!

Do you have to go to court to establish a world record vermillion?

Well dang! We threw some back like that just the other day, thought they were Red Snapper. Didn’t know they were actually Vermillion.

Nice Job.

I could be wrong, but I believe that is either a Cubera or Mangrove snapper. The only sure fire way to tell with is by the marking inside the top of the mouth. Arrow shape = mangrove?.I think.

100% Red Snapper. Sure hope the ones in power at the SAFMC give us a chance to harvest a few of these poor endangered species this year. BTW…We released 12 on Wednesday

Funny but true story. We were tearing up big football bee liners two years ago. My dad brings the game warden from Kershaw county. He owns a farm and deer hunts a bunch there. Anyhoo said game warden pulls in a 4/5 lb ARS, who was obviously off limits and tosses him in the cooler…We all laugh our arses off, and grab the bruised fish out from the cooler, vent him, and release him, much to said game wardens shargin…ha ha…nice fish Matt.
